A Frazer alternative that runs in your browser, with a free plan
GARAGEBIRDS is dealer management software that runs in a web browser, built for independent used-car lots running about 10 to 75 cars. Its Free plan is free forever and covers inventory, true profit per vehicle, cash desking, and built-in state forms for all 50 states, with auto-fill. Pro is $49 a month billed yearly ($588 a year), or $59 billed monthly, with no contract.
Frazer is Windows software. Its Desktop plan is $129 a month, $387 a quarter, or $1,299 a year. Hosted Frazer, from $199 a month, keeps your database on a remote cloud server managed by Frazer, but it is still opened from the Hosted Frazer Client icon on a PC desktop. Buy here pay here is included in both plans, along with a full accounting suite, and GARAGEBIRDS has neither. If you sell for cash or the buyer brings their own financing, and you’d rather not tie the lot to one Windows machine, GARAGEBIRDS lets you start for free.

Choose Frazer if…
- You carry your own paper. Buy here pay here is included in both plans, and so is a full accounting suite. GARAGEBIRDS has no BHPH and no accounting or general ledger.
- You want someone at the lot to set it up. Frazer offers free on-site installation and training, in most states, and free and unlimited customer support.
- You want to customise the forms you print. Frazer lists unlimited forms printing and customization, with thousands of free forms. GARAGEBIRDS has its built-in state forms on Free and fills them in as they are; your own contracts and documents go through Smart Print Forms on Pro.
- You want your inventory sent to listing sites. Frazer’s pricing page shows internet advertising included, through integrations with hundreds of automotive classifieds and dealer websites. GARAGEBIRDS has no listing feeds.
Choose GARAGEBIRDS if…
- You work on a Mac, a Chromebook, or away from the office PC. GARAGEBIRDS runs in a web browser, so the app itself needs no install; Facebook Marketplace posting on Pro uses the Posting Assistant, an extension for Chrome or Edge. Frazer’s system requirements call for Windows 10 or 11, and it is not available on Mac or Chromebook, even with virtualization software.
- You’re newly licensed and not carrying notes. If your buyers pay cash or finance elsewhere, you don’t need BHPH or a full accounting suite on day one.
- You want to start without a subscription. GARAGEBIRDS Free has no time limit. Frazer’s pricing page lists two paid plans and offers a demo.
- You want the real profit on each car before you sell it, with the purchase, fees, transport and recon on the car’s record as you spend them.
A browser instead of a Windows install
Frazer’s Desktop plan runs on a Windows PC. Hosted Frazer is a cloud-based version of Frazer DMS: the database lives on Frazer’s server, but it is still opened from the Hosted Frazer Client icon on a PC desktop. Frazer adds the Frazer Sidekick mobile app for inventory and photos. GARAGEBIRDS runs in a web browser at app.garagebirds.com, with no client to install or keep updated. The one optional install is the Posting Assistant browser extension for Facebook Marketplace posting on Pro.
Start on a free plan
Frazer’s Desktop plan is $129 a month, and its pricing page notes no setup costs or hidden fees. GARAGEBIRDS Free costs nothing and needs no credit card: inventory management and listings, VIN decode, cost tracking with true profit per vehicle, cash desking with a per-deal margin view, built-in state forms for all 50 states, with auto-fill, contacts, and unlimited users. When the lot needs finance desking, Smart Print Forms, assisted Facebook Marketplace posting or leads, an admin starts Pro’s 14-day trial from Billing, with no card. Both plans are in the pricing section.
Profit per car, without the accounting
Frazer keeps the books: you can add vehicles and costs, and both plans include a full accounting suite. GARAGEBIRDS does one narrower job well: every cost you spend on a car (purchase price, auction fee, transport, parts, labor, detailing) is logged on that car, so the deal shows its true profit before you close it. It isn’t accounting software. For what belongs in a car’s cost, see how to know your true profit per vehicle.
How the work is organised
GARAGEBIRDS follows each car through Buy, Inventorize, Restore, Display and Sell. Buy and Restore are the costs you record against the car rather than separate modules; Inventorize is the vehicle record, Display is assisted Facebook Marketplace posting on Pro, and Sell is the deal, with your state’s forms filled in from it.
What GARAGEBIRDS doesn’t do
- No buy here pay here, and no accounting or general ledger.
- No lender or credit-application integration. Finance desking on Pro works out the payment; it doesn’t submit a deal.
- No dealer website and no listing feeds. Facebook Marketplace posting is assisted: GARAGEBIRDS lays out the listing and you post it.
- No e-signatures and no multi-location.
Questions
How much does Frazer cost?
Frazer’s pricing page lists the Desktop plan at $129 a month, $387 a quarter, or $1,299 a year, and Hosted Frazer from $199 a month. Both include inventory management, sales processing, forms printing, buy here pay here, a full accounting suite and access from anywhere. The page says there are no setup costs or hidden fees, and offers free on-site installation and training, in most states. Prices change, so check Frazer’s pricing page for current figures.
Does Frazer run on a Mac?
Not according to its system requirements: Frazer needs Windows 10 or 11 and is not available on Mac or Chromebook, even with virtualization software. Hosted Frazer is opened from the Hosted Frazer Client icon on a PC desktop. GARAGEBIRDS runs in a web browser on a Mac or Chromebook as well as a Windows PC. The one install is optional: the Posting Assistant, a Chrome or Edge extension for assisted Facebook Marketplace posting on Pro.
Is there a cloud alternative to Frazer?
Frazer’s own Hosted plan is a cloud-based version of Frazer DMS, from $199 a month, opened from a Windows desktop client. GARAGEBIRDS is cloud software you use in a browser, with a Free plan that is free forever and Pro at $49 a month billed yearly ($588 a year), or $59 billed monthly.
Does GARAGEBIRDS do buy here pay here or accounting?
No. GARAGEBIRDS tracks what each car cost and what it sold for, but it doesn’t manage notes or payments, and it isn’t accounting software. If you carry your own paper, a system with BHPH built in, like Frazer, is the better fit.
Can I try GARAGEBIRDS before I pay?
Yes. The Free plan is free forever with no credit card, so you can run real cars through it. Pro has a 14-day trial that an admin starts from Billing when you’re ready, also with no card.
Run the lot from your browser
Free forever, no credit card, and no software to install for the app itself.
